ROTONDE |
Rotonde is the Dutch word for roundabout or traffic circle. Many are being constructed in Holland at this time. |
The sculptor and landscape designer, Lucien den Arend, was commissioned to make a proposal for a sculpture on one of the new roundabouts in the city of Heemskerk in the Netherlands.

Lucien den Arend's personal views on roundabouts and public sculpture | |
One of the definitions of sculpture is a spatial object made with the intention of being viewed from all sides. As far as that goes one would conclude that a roundabout would be the ideal place for sculpture. In many cases that is true, although one must remember that no location is suited for any solution. This applies to a roundabout as well as to art as a whole.
